Directory Listing Troubleshooting | Theme: Dark | Light |
Having trouble? Use this guide to
troubleshoot issues with your listing and get answers to your most
common questions.
Updating your station information
Update your station information via the
Broadcaster Dashboard. Any changes made in your control
panel may take up to 10 minutes to appear on the listener
portal.
Station is not listed in genre searches
The listener experience is what keeps people coming
back, which in turn gives LoudCity stations exposure and grows the traffic to the directory
(and your stream).
To drive as many listeners as possible to broadcaster streams, we work hard to make
sure that there are no dead stations in the directory. If your
station isn't listed, something's wrong - and here are the most common reasons.
-
Now Playing data is not
provided or not fresh
If your station isn't sending proper titles (Format Artist -
Title) our system assumes you're off the air. If they don't
change after 90 minutes, we assume you're off the air.
Fix: Check to make sure you're
sending Now Playing information with your stream and that it's formatted properly (Artist [space] - [space] Title). If you're using
the PAL/API, make sure it's running. Bad titles are a violation of our policy
and it means we can't log your stream.
If you are sending now playing
information, it's possible you have bad Media Server entries in the
station manager console (see next item)
-
No Media Servers, Bad Media
Server(s), or Media Servers are down
Bad media server information results in no audio. If a station can't
be heard, it's not going to show in the directory.
Fix: Log into your dashboard and make sure all your Media Servers are current,
accurate, and working.
Allow 10 minutes for any changes in the dashboard to be reflected in the directory.
-
No Genres defined
If you haven't take time to establish genres for your station, we
don't know how to classify it - so we can't list it yet.
Fix: Log into your dashboard and add
genres to your station. Your station
can show under up to 6 genres in the directory. If you pick a
sub-genre, the parent is automatically added too. In this way, it's
possible to actually list 12 times in the directory, assuming each
of your six genres is in a different parent category.
-
Not ranked highly in search
results
Most results are randomized to give all stations equal opportunity,
however stations with no logo do rank lower than those with an
image.
Fix: Log into your dashboard and add
a logo to your station. Make it stand out!
Allow 10 minutes for
any changes in the dashboard to be reflected in the directory.
Station has no name or a number for a name
You forgot to give your station a proper name when
you set it up! Woops...
Fix: Log into your dashboard,
click EDIT on your station page, and give your station a name.
Remember, when you change your station name, the URL to your launch
page changes too. Proceed carefully.
Allow 10 minutes for any changes
in the dashboard to be reflected in the directory.
Station is listed, but won't play in Web Player
If the web player link is showing for your station,
it's because a media server was identified as MP3 in your "Media
Servers" settings in the station manager console. If that server is,
for example, really broadcasting in AAC+, the web player can't play
the stream.
Fix: Log into your dashboard and make sure all your Media Servers are set to the
right audio format, and working. You can reset the format just by
clicking Edit on the server and resubmitting.
Allow 10 minutes for any changes in the dashboard
to be reflected in the directory.
Web Player works, but stutters
The web player is not compatible with some servers that
play intro files. It does work with most, though.
Fix: You can either remove your
intro file, or write to us and we'll remove the web player from your
station page.
Station not listed in mobile version
Stations that don't offer AAC+ or MP3 streams will
not be listed in the mobile version of the directory. If listeners
can't tune in, we don't show them the station.
How do I become a featured station?
Maintain current Media Server and Now Playing
information, make sure your station has a logo uploaded to the
station manager console, and you will be eligible for a Featured
Station listing. All stations meeting the above criteria will be
featured on a rotating basis. The featured station list is rotated
each day at midnight Eastern Time
None of my tune-in links work
Tune in links are based on what you entered in
"Media Servers" on your station manager panel.
Fix: Log into your dashboard and make sure all your Media Servers are current,
accurate, and working.
Allow 10 minutes for any changes in the dashboard to be reflected in the directory.
Optimizing your listing
Placement within search result for a genre search is
somewhat random, to give all stations fair exposure. However,
stations that have the following characteristics will rank higher...
Stations that offer AAC+ and MP3 streams will also
automatically appear on the mobile site.
