AFTC Radio should be easy to explain. The concept is not a complicated one:
Play good music.
It's a simple concept, yet, through decades as a frustrated listener, I've never run across a radio station that simply plays good music. Finally, I've done it myself.
But what is good music?
You mean like Top Hits?
You mean like Top Hits with a Bullet?
You mean like Oldies?
You mean like Classic Rock? Oh Yeah Foreigner! Cool!
You mean like AOR, MOR, R&B ?
You mean like Alternative?
You mean like 60’s?
You mean like 80’s?
You mean, new, adult contemporary?
You mean like Sounds of Today? Urban? Rap? Hip Hop?
You mean 90's, Scandinavian, Satanic black metal?
You mean first wave, British Ska on vinyl only?
You mean neo fusion world music with a twist of lime?
No, that's not what I mean. First of all, as I read those categories my brain and stomach ache. I’m somewhat reluctant to wish suffering on my fellow man, but I hope many of you feel my pain. A radio station shouldn’t fit into a category or conform to a "format." . These are marketing tools used to reel in a lazy audience. Good music, all kinds, made for and by intelligent, creative people just doesn't correlate with the specifications of Sony's marketing team. Forget that whole approach.
The AFTC Radio Library contains music that was recorded before there was electricity up until the latest releases. At present the library contains approximately 60,000 recordings. The play list is drawn from the best of that library and is constantly being updated. Perhaps that sounds impressive as most stations have libraries of a few hundred songs but it shouldn't. There has always been good music. Sometimes it’s popular sometimes it’s not. AFTC Radio plays the good music irregardless of genre, time period or culture. With millions of people making music for thousands of years, non-repetitive, unsafe, non-categorized, top notch music of a wide variety should be the norm. Yes, it takes a lot of work to sort out the best of 60,000 recordings, but it's about time that someone began to put it all together. This is the way things should be. I've stripped away the marketing labels, dissolved any prejudices and proudly present a continuous stream of music that just makes you feel...
