BlackLight Radio is quite literally the best 1,000 pop songs of the 1980s, 24/7. While there are many 80s stations on the web (& a few over the air), many of these stations slant alternative, or slant rock & metal, or focus on the mid-80s to the exclusion of either end of the decade. Others seem to be only novelty songs of the 80s, while others completely ignore those same songs. BlackLight Radio plays the top 100 songs for each year, 1980 through 1989, as listed in Billboard Magazine's year-end issues. (DISCLAIMER: BlackLight Radio is not associated with Billboard Magazine.) BlackLight Radio doesn't play "the 80s & more," we don't play "the 80s & beyond," we don't play "the best of 80s, 90s & today." These were the biggest songs of the decade, the 45s everybody bought, the songs every station played, the music videos everybody saw on MTV (or Night Tracks, or Friday Night Videos). A lot of effort (not just hours, but months) have been spent to track down the original hit single versions of these songs. Some haven't been heard on the radio since the 80s... some of them haven't been released on CD, ever! The exceptions to this "original hit mix / edit" rule number about three at last count... and I'm working to get the right versions of those songs still. This is the 80s, the way the 80s actually sounded. While some think of 80s music as bubble-gum synthesizer dance tunes, the reality is much different. In 1980 alone we play mega-hits from Pink Floyd, Blondie, & Kenny Rogers! This variety continues right through 1989, where you'll find Guns N' Roses, Bette Midler, & Tone Loc sharing the stage. BlackLight Radio is music for those who lived the decade, or wished they were there. BlackLight Radio won't talk down to you, we won't make fun of your favorite 80s memories. We aren't "totally tubular" & we don't play "big 80s" music. We aren't "awesome" or "killer." This music was fun, but ran the full range of our emotions. As a child of the 80s, this is MY music, too... it doesn't matter what other generations think of these songs, they played at pivotal times in our lives. I promise to always treat those memories with respect! Our weekend programming includes the roots of rock with "Saturday Swingtime" midday, "Rock Therapy" Saturday afternoon (80s metal), & The "Anonymous Collection" several times each weekend, which can be ANYTHING! Plus "party mixes" of your favorite songs every Friday & Saturday night; it's the long, extended dance remixes of the 80's hottest hits.
